23 news contents against election code of conduct in 10 days
10 May, Kathmandu: Twenty-three news breaching election code of conduct were published and disseminated through print and online media, according to the Press Council Nepal.
The Press Council on Tuesday released a report of media monitoring carried out from April 28 to May 8 as designated by the Election Commission for the same.
According to the media monitoring body, some weekly newspapers and online portals were found disseminating media contents in a lopsided manner by violating election code of conduct.
Similarly, social media were also found making publicity of election breaching the code of conduct, according to the Council. In course of monitoring, the Council found Damauli FM and Avenues Television disseminating election contents not adhering with the election code of conduct.
Saying election code of conduct was violated by 25 media and two social network sites, the Council asked the media concerned to follow ethics. Acting Chairman of Press Council, Kishor Shrestha, urged the media to exercise press freedom keeping in mind the election sensitivity.
Similarly, Federation of Nepali Journalists Chairperson, Dr Mahendra Bista reminded journalists and media of their responsibility to follow the election code of conduct. RSS
